Ground Self Defense Techniques

In this section, you will learn ground self defense techniques against an attacker when you are on the ground, the floor or on your bed.

The most important point about ground fighting is to keep your attacker in front of you at all times. Make sure your legs are between you and the attacker.

You learned how to use your legs in the self defense moves using leg strikes section. Well, you can use your legs while on the ground to kick your attacker in the groin, knee joint and mid-section.

Don't try to get up if you end up having the attacker behind you. You must keep him in your sights. Once you have disabled him, then you can get up and run away or get into your fighting stance.

Self Defense Tips for the Front Pin

If the attacker is holding you down with your arms pinned above your head, you can bend both your legs so as your knees are as close to the attackers buttocks as possible. Make sure your feet are flat down on the ground, floor, bed, etc.

After you bend your legs, use the element of surprise to jerk your arms down to shoulder or eye level. As you do this, raise your waist up quickly, lifting your buttocks off the ground. This should throw your attacker off balance and off you.

As the attacker falls forward off balance, jerk your arms downward again in order to force him to break his grip and let you loose. Push him away and then use the groundself defense techniques described above.

Front Pin Strangling

Another ground self defense technique you can use if the attacker has you pinned down and has his hands on your throat in order to strangle you is to take your strongest arm and move it up through the attackers arms.

As you do this, move your arm out towards your side. This will cause your bicep to hit against the attacker's wrist or forearm and break his hold. When he breaks his hold, use your same arm to hold his arm in a tight grip.

After you have done this, use the first move described above in the Front Pin section to lift him off you and knock him off balance. As you do this, use your other hand to gouge his eyes. Push him away and then get into your ground fighting position.

Rear Pin

If you're able to, try not to get into a position where you end up being pinned from behind because it's more difficult to get out of this hold. However, if you end up in this position, slide your strongest leg up, bending your knee. Your leg is sideways with the inside of your knee still on the ground.

Slide your leg up as far as it can go and then twist your hips away from your leg, into the attacker. He should fall off you when you do this.

Once you're able to get out of these pin moves, you can then use ground self defense techniques to disable your attacker and get away. Remember to kick in the key target areas which are the groin, the knee joint and the mid-section.
