Self Defense During a Home Invasion

by Michelle

Here is a true life example of self defense during a home invasion.

A Houston, Texas man returned to his house around 9:30am. When he arrived, he heard someone inside moving around. He grabbed his shotgun under his bed in his bedroom.

The intruder suddenly came rushing out of the bedroom closet and the homeowner shot him several times. The burglar died at the scene.

No charges were filed against the homeowner.

Taking someone's life is a very traumatic experience and the homeowner will probably be shaken up for awhile over what happened. But, considering the circumstances, the self defense measures the homeowner took more than likely saved his life.

Texas has a castle doctrine law. The castle doctrine generally states that you don't have to try to escape from your own home. You have a right to defend yourself, even using deadly force, if someone breaks into your home. The law varies from state to state, so you might want to check your state's castle doctrine law.

There have been many cases where innocent homeowners have been murdered, tortured, abducted or severely injured by an intruder. The homeowner in Texas did exactly the right thing by using self defense during a home invasion.

You can lower your chances of being in one of these situations by installing a home security system or hiring a home security monitoring company.

If someone breaks in, the alarm will be triggered and the monitoring station will notify the local authorities to check on your home. They will also notify you that your alarm was triggered and that the proper authorities have been called.
