For example, by sounding the loud alarm and then spraying pepper spray in the attacker's face, you end up attracting attention from other people and the attacker ends up on the ground suffering from the affects of the spray.

Since all attackers are not alike, pepper spray might not work on some people, especially if they are intoxicated or high on drugs. If the spray doesn't work, the alarm might be enough of a deterrent to make the attacker run away.
