This extra defense can come in the form of personal protection products.

Usually these self defense products are small enough to be carried in your purse or even your pants pocket. Some are used for close contact and others are used when you're a certain distance away from a potential attacker.

If you carry one of these self defense items in your purse, it might be difficult for you to get to it in time if you're being attacked, especially if you have a lot of stuff in your purse. Using self defense moves might be better in these situations.

If you sense danger from someone who looks like they might be a threat, you might have time to get whatever self defense product you're carrying out of your purse. You can also carry it in your hand if you're walking outside at night.

Pepper spray can be used when there is some distance between you and a potential attacker.

Once you use a self defense product, your main focus should be to run and get the hell out of there and to a place of safety. Don't stick around thinking you're going to finish the job by beating the mess out of him or cussing him out. The attacker might recover quicker than you think and you'll end up right back where you started...in the hands of the attacker.

My advice is the same as when you use a self defense move on an attacker. Defend yourself so the attacker either loosens his grip on you or you're able to immobilize him by hurting him. This will give you just enough room and time to escape.

What if you don't have any self defense products? Improvise. Use whatever is around you to defend yourself. It could be a potted plant, an umbrella, your purse, a brick or big rock on the ground. Pick it up and beat the mess out of him with it. But remember. Your intention is NOT to kill him, but to get him away from you or immobilize him long enough to escape and run to safety.

If you can't find any local stores that sell personal protection products, you can find them on the internet. Also make sure you check the laws in your state regarding owning self defense products. This is very important. Some states restrict the use of self defense items and merchants on the internet will not sell them to you if you live in one of these states.
