Mace Pepper Spray is known as the best pepper spray on the market for consumers. Everyone has heard of the Mace brand.
Their self defense products are high quality. There are other brands of sprays that are good too, but Mace is the leader in the industry.
Self defense sprays are probably the cheapest type of self defense products and it can come in different shapes like a canister or disguised as a pen, lipstick tube or a pager. This makes it easy to carry in your pocket, purse or on your keychain.
The spray is also called OC Spray (for Oleoresin Capsicum). It contains a derivative of cayenne pepper. This will cause the eyes to tear up, have a burning sensation, extreme irritation and the attacker's eyes will swell up and shut close. The affects can last anywhere from 10 minutes or up to an hour.
The spray usually has a range of up to 12 feet. The Mace Pepper Spray Gun has a range up to 25 feet. When confronted by a possible attacker, extend your arm out, aiming the pepper spray at the attacker. You'll want to have a few feet of distance from him so you don't get hit by the spray when you press the trigger.
Aim for the eyes or face. If you're worried about your aim being off, the pepper spray foam or pepper spray gel are good alternatives, because the foam and gel will cover the face of the attacker.
Since Mace makes the best pepper spray, they also make the most accurate spray with the pepper spray gun. The gun uses a disposable cartridge that allows you to spray a constant stream from any angle. So again you don't have to worry about having good aim.
You only have to press the trigger for a second or two. Just a couple of seconds of spraying will cause the attacker to choke, cough, feel sick, shut his eyes close from swelling and fall to the ground. When this happens, run to safety and call the police.
If self defense sprays are legal in your area, you can probably find them in hardware stores or sporting goods stores.
If you can't find sprays in those places, you can always go online and find a merchant who sells self defense products.
If you live in New York, Massachusetts or Wisconsin, check the laws on self defense products for those states. Some states prohibit the use of self defense sprays and other cities and counties restrict what kind of spray you can have in your possession.
